Wacky Ducky - Jan Brzechwa
English Translation by Marek Kazmierski
"Wacky Ducky" is a delightful Polish children's poem written by the author Jan Brzechwa. The tale revolves around the eccentric and whimsical character of Kaczka Dziwaczka, which translates to "Wacky Ducky."
The poem humorously details the peculiar behavior and adventures of Kaczka Dziwaczka, who is known for doing things in the most unconventional ways. Her quirky actions, such as using toothpicks for combs or looking for a bottled cheese, amuse and bewilder the other animals.
Through playful language and witty verses, Brzechwa highlights themes of individuality and the joy of being different. The whimsical narrative and vibrant descriptions make this poem a timeless favorite among children and adults alike in Polish literature.
And that said creating illustrations for "Wacky Ducky" I tried to add a unique and vibrant dimension to the whimsical nature of Jan Brzechwa's poem, by using a digital collage technique and a limited, bold color palette.
By combining humorous, exaggerated colors and abstract shapes with elements from realistic photographs, I created a delightful contrast that enhances the eccentricity of our main character.
